A Taxonomy for Instant Messaging Technologies….

This post is admittedly a bit premature, but we’ve been plinking along here with various thoughts about chat, IM, EIM, etc. without really delving into what differentiates one from another.  True, the terms can be a bit squishy.  All the more reason to define them, and we’ll do just that.  See the new page to the right “IM Taxonomy”.  It’s just a shell now, but we’ll define the different variants soon.  In the meantime – I encourage you to contribute your thoughts on what IM is vs. EIM vs. persistent group chat vs. presence and so on.  Click on the “comment” link now!
